"Folklore is just as much, if not more of, an agent of the present as it is of the past"- T.J Blank.
 The study of Folklore emphasis the study of creativity and aesthetic expression in everyday life and the political implications of that expression as it unfolds in contested arenas of culture. Department of Folklore within the faculty of social science at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University got approval in 2011 and in 2015 it started its academic journey with 2014-15 academic sessions. Currently undergraduate and post-graduate programs are running offering wide range of methodological, theoretical, historical, and practical courses to make ready the students for their employment in public sector and research. The ethnographic fieldwork of real life situations and the contextual analysis of everyday situations makes Folklore dynamic than other sister disciplines in social science. Folklore explore the world's cultural diversity and to the broad range of human expression, including music, visual art, material culture, verbal art, cultural performance, and cosmological and mythological systems.

Hello and welcome to our Department of Folklore!! I am Sakar Mustafa and the Head of the Department of folklore at JKKNIU. You may have arrived at this page for a number of different reasons: maybe you are interested in undergraduate studies in Folklore or you consider pursuing a graduate degree. Maybe you are interested knowing what’s going at our department. As you can see from our website, our department is doing extremely well and with regards to teaching excellence and folklore research. The department is like a family of the faculty members and the students . Our department aspires to considerably expand its research and teaching activities in new directions, and welcome all initiatives and support which would help us work towards that goal.
